“IRENE DUNNE SINGS KERN AND OTHER RARITIES” Sepia 1171 (2011)
Released in July 2011, this is another CD from the excellent Sepia Records catalogue. Mainly transferred from 78 rpm recordings – and very well too – these 21 sides will please all the Irene Dunne aficionados out there. Including her well-known recordings of Jerome Kern songs: “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”, “I’ve Told Ev’ry Little Star”, “They Didn’t Believe Me” and “Why Was I Born?” this CD also features rarities like unissued studio recordings of “They Didn’t Believe Me”, “The Folks Who Live On the Hill” and a lovely 1941 version of “Make Believe”. As well as a bunch of alternate takes, this must-have disc also has a rare exploitation disc from the 1936 Universal production of “Show Boat”. If you like Jerome Kern and Irene Dunne – you’ll love this.
